Topic : Investigating the past
In this topic you will learn...
Chapter 1 :
What does history do for us?
Studying history is studying the past and its stories
They can be the stories of a country, a group of people, or just one person
History tells us how and why things happened in the past
It helps prevent us from repeating past mistakes and helps us understand the present
It can tell us what people did, who they were, and when they lived
Studying the past helps us build up a picture of what life was like - even thousands of years ago
History can also show us how our world is connected to the past
By looking at different accounts of the past we can build a fuller picture of our history
History is something that is shared by all of us
No one group of people can 'own' history, but we can have different opinions on history

What can history do for you?
Because you are alive you are a part of history

your
history

What we write now will help future generations to know more about
their
past
