Motion
Topic : Motion
In this topic you will learn...
Chapter 1 :
Speed
An object is in motion when it is moving from one place to another
Distance is the space through which an object travels
Speed measures how quickly an object moves from one place to another
Instantaneous speed is an object's speed at a particular time
Average speed is an object's overall speed over a particular distance
Average speed is distance divided by time
The unit for speed is usually m/s, but it can be any unit of distance over any unit of time
Chapter 2 :
Direction and speed: velocity
Displacement refers to the distance and direction between two places
Velocity considers displacement and the time taken for that displacement
Velocity is displacement divided by time
Speed and velocity can have the same magnitude, but they can also have different magnitudes
Displacement can be measured in two or three dimensions
Chapter 3 :
Acceleration: speeding up
Acceleration is the rate at which an object's velocity changes over time
Acceleration is concerned with both the direction and time the travel takes
Acceleration happens when an object's velocity changes direction or speed
Negative acceleration is also called deceleration
Acceleration is velocity divided by time
Acceleration is measured in m/s
